Description
Finding Your Perfect Fit 🧥
Our oilskin jackets are designed with a “Classic Jacket Fit.” While slightly slimmer than our coats, these jackets still include essential “Ease” (wiggle room) to ensure you can move comfortably during outdoor activities.
How to Choose Your Size:
-
Check your Body Measurement: Use a tape measure around the widest part of your chest. Match this to the “To Fit Chest” column in our chart.
- The Shoulder Fit: Because oilskin is a stiff fabric, the shoulder measurement is key to mobility. The coat shoulders should be slightly wider than your actual shoulders to prevent the sleeves from “riding up” when you move.
-
The Liner Factor: Our sizing already accounts for the extra bulk of the removable lining. If you plan to wear the jacket with the lining and a standard shirt, stick to your measured size.
Why is the “Actual Jacket” measurement larger?
To allow for comfortable arm movement and the space required for a removable lining or jersey you might be layering with, our jackets typically measure 10cm to 15cm larger than your actual body measurement. This ensures the jacket looks tailored without being restrictive across the back and shoulders.
💡 Pro Tip: Oilskin does not stretch. If you are between sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size. A jacket that is too tight can limit your range of motion and feel uncomfortable during active use.
How to Measure for the Best Results 📏
- The Chest: Measure under your arms around the fullest part of your chest. Keep the tape level and don’t pull it too tight.
- The Shoulders: Measure across the top of your back from the edge of one shoulder bone to the other
- Compare to your favorite coat: If you’re still unsure, lay your favorite winter coat flat:
-
-
-
Chest: Measure from armpit to armpit and multiply by two. Compare this to our “Actual Coat Chest.”
-
Shoulders: Measure straight across from shoulder seam to shoulder seam. Compare this to our “Actual Coat Shoulder.”

Washing & Care Advice 🧼
Oilskin jackets are a fantastic way to stay warm and dry in wet weather. Caring for your oilskin properly will keep it in good condition for years to come.
Daily Maintenance & Cleaning
-
Brush it off: If your jacket gets dirty, brush it off with a stiff brush or sponge.
-
Cold Water Only: Don’t wash your jacket with hot water or detergent. This will remove the oils and waxes that make it waterproof.
-
Spot Cleaning: Spot-clean the outer shell with a damp cloth or sponge.
-
Deep Clean: If your jacket is really dirty, you can rinse it in a tub of cold water or hose it off outside while hanging.
Drying & Storage
-
Air Dry: If your jacket gets wet, hang it up to dry as soon as possible. Air dry your item; do not wring it out or put it in the dryer. 💨
-
Storage: Store your jacket in a cool, dry place. Avoid damp or humid environments, as this can cause mould to grow.
Important Notes
-
Detergent Warning: If you choose to wash it with detergent, rinse your jacket thoroughly and be aware that you will now need to reproof the garment.
-
Reproofing: If your jacket starts to look dull or loses its waterproofing qualities, you can reproof it to restore its performance.
With proper care, your oilskin jacket will keep you warm and dry for many years to come!
